Why Labor And Delivery Nurses Are Rock Stars In Our Book
And They Still Try To Honor Our Birth Plans
Our safety, as well as that of our babies, is a L&D nurse's number one priority. But the best nurses still try to honor our birth plans as much as possible. Giving that control back to a laboring mom is huge, and anything they can do to accommodate our wishes is an amazing thing.
One of the most common requests we hear from moms is to begin breastfeeding as soon as possible after birth. Those amazing L&D nurses make it happen as soon as it's safe to do so, and if it can't happen right away, they're there reassuring us.
A woman shared how the L&D floor accommodated her request for specific parts of her birth plan and making sure she was assigned a nurse who had more experience in this woman's specific needs. She shared how much this affected her, simply by her nurses being respectful and patient.
As we've already said, they're basically rock stars.
