Why Labor And Delivery Nurses Are Rock Stars In Our Book
They Save Our Lives
The attentiveness of L&D nurses is great, but these nurses are also extensively trained for emergency situations, and since they're the ones always there, they're going to catch concerns first. From working quickly to slow a hemorrhage until the doctor arrives, to carefully monitoring labs and blood pressure in cases of preeclampsia, these nurses are highly skilled at saving our lives.
In my case, I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia and the same nurses who were just making lighthearted conversation with me prior to my surgery were suddenly hovering over me, attaching wires and tubes with some hurry, expressions of concern on their faces. At that moment, I realized I needed the wicked-sharp skills of these nurses to save my life. That was pretty sobering.
