13. Utilize The "Pick Up Put Down" Method
"Pick Up Put Down" is considered a gradual, gentle method that American parents may be more comfortable with. Essentially, you put your baby down awake and then practice "stop, wait, and listen." If they start crying, you would go in, pick them up, and offer comfort for a few minutes before putting them down and leaving. Repeat the process until they fall asleep. 

You can modify this for older children. If they wake up upset and are unable to settle down, you can go in and pat them on the back or provide other physical comfort and repeat until they drift off.
