Surprising Things You Didn't Know About Royal Pregnancies
22. Royal Babies Are Christened In The Same Robe
Since 1841, every royal baby in the British monarchy was christened in the same heirloom robe. The original robe was first made for the christening of Queen Victoria's eldest daughter, Princess Victoria, and was fashioned after Queen Victoria's wedding gown. In total, the christening gown was used by 62 royal children over 163 years, including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, and his sons, Prince William and Harry. While the tradition still stands, one thing has changed: in 2008 the royal children were baptized in a replica in order to preserve the original.
