Sharing is an important skill, and children do need to learn it. However, before the age of 5, they're not capable of empathy, which is essential to true sharing. Furthermore, forced sharing causes feelings of powerlessness.

Rather than making them share, help them navigate sharing situations and, if they have a really special toy, have them put it away before a playdate.
