If we want our kids to be well-mannered, we have to be in the habit of saying "please" and "thank you" ourselves. It goes beyond modeling the type of courteous conduct we want to see them exhibit inside the home and out in the world, though. Showing gratitude, even when the behavior is expected (like making their bed), helps a child feel appreciated.
