17. "You Get To Like What You Like"
In recent years, marketing to kids has become increasingly gender-specific. Perpetuating gender stereotypes only serves to limit children, and it often results in inhibiting their natural talents and interests. Parents can combat this messaging by communicating to their children that all toys, books, colors, games, TV shows, and movies are for everyone.

Moms and dads can supplement the verbal message by making available to their kids a variety of toys, from trucks and blocks to tea sets and dolls. Allow them to try all activities, from organized sports and dance to art and music. As a parent, you can ensure that your child knows that it is OK for girls to like superheroes and boys to play princesses.
