Moms Share Their Truths About Maternity Leave

6. Everything Took Twice As Long
"The worst part of my leave was that I had a significant tear and it was a solid month before I felt like I could walk properly. It was an issue living in a downtown area with no car. Running to the corner store to get bread was an hour-long adventure between getting the baby ready, getting myself cleaned up, changing the baby's blowout that he would inevitably have just as I got to the front door, and then hobbling two blocks with rest stops every so often. It was also the first time in my life I wasn't sure where the money was going to be coming from and in the middle of the night, exhausted, I often felt like my entire world was about to crash down on me." -Carol K.
