Moms Share The Hardest Parts Of Raising Kids After Divorce (Or Separation)

The Mental Load
"My husband passed away when our sons were young. I prefer the term 'solo parent.' To me, it more closely describes the reality of it — no visitation or every other weekend off. The mental burden of planning for time spent with my kids, my career, housework, meals, homework, sports schedules — literally every single decision has to be made by me. It’s beyond exhausting to carry that mental load.

If I don’t plan for it or do it, it doesn’t get done. Recently, I let a Cheeto sit on the stairs for a week to see how long it could sit there before it would occur to either of my sons to pick it up. They didn’t even notice."
