Stage
Labor is divided into three stages. Stage one has two phases: latent (essentially playing the waiting game while your cervix warms up) and active (dilated to 3 or 4 cm with contractions increasing in frequency and strength). Stage two begins at full dilation and is the pushing phase. It ends with delivery. In stage three, the woman expels the placenta.
