3. Assisted Vaginal Delivery
If your provider has concerns about the baby's heart rate or position, or you are simply too exhausted to continue, they may opt to help the birthing process along via an assisted delivery (also known as an operative or instrumental delivery). There are two types: vacuum extraction (which involves suction via a ventouse) or forceps (which involves pulling with a smooth, tong-like instrument).
