Ways To Foster Independence In Your Kids (At Any Age)

Guide Instead Of Give
Being a parent is complicated and it just gets more so as our kids get older. It feels like just loving them should be enough. If we want to raise independent children, we need to parent mindfully.

Consider what you want your role to be in your child’s life — a parent that guides their child towards independence or a parent that caters and enables them towards helplessness? It is easier in the short-term to make their snacks and pick up their messes for them, but it won’t serve them well in the long-term. When we teach our children how to choose weather appropriate clothes or how to care for their pets, we are guiding them towards successful (eventual) independence.
