Ways To Foster Independence In Your Kids (At Any Age)

Allow Them To Feed Themselves
Let your baby be a gooey mess and feed themselves! Yes, it is more work for you to have to wipe them down after meals. However, your baby will be more likely to try new foods and react positively to what they are served if they’re allowed to explore it themselves rather than on the end of a spoon held by their parent.

When your children are older, you can extend this freedom to them by encouraging them to prepare their own meals. Consider a simple chart taped up in the kitchen with reminders of what should go on a plate (vegetables, fruits, proteins, etc) and keeping healthy choices within children’s reach. Let them prepare their school lunches, too! Kids are way more likely to eat what they’ve put the effort into packing themselves.
