Hold Them Accountable
Part of having rules is being held accountable when they aren’t followed. Decide together, ahead of time, what the consequence of not following the rules will be. If children know what’s coming, they can’t be surprised by it. If you follow through on consequences, even if they are inconvenient or uncomfortable, you’ll reinforce the idea and will have to do so less in the future.
