13. Bonding will likely feel different.
In the first few weeks, I worried a lot about bonding. I loved my second daughter, but my heart didn’t feel as torn open as it did with my first. While the intensity has built over the days and nights we’ve spent together since then, I’ve realized bonding takes time. The first time you aren’t just learning to love a new person, you’re taking on an entirely new identity as a parent. The second, it’s more familiar and will likely feel a little different, but that doesn’t make it more or less special.
