How To Help Your Kids Understand What It Means To Have A Disability
20. Discuss The Importance Of Not Giving Unwanted Attention
When kids already feel different they don’t want to be reminded of these differences all the time. Remind your child how sometimes she doesn’t like to be given extra attention when she falls down or feels upset and that children with special needs often feel the same way. Instead of making a big deal out of differences, your child should approach kids with disabilities in the same way they’d approach anyone else — with kindness (and no staring or pointing).
