The thing is, small talk only goes so far. Keeping things on the surface doesn’t deepen friendships and if you’ve found a group you really enjoy, the next step is to start putting yourself out there. Tell other moms how you’re really feeling about breastfeeding or going back to work. It can open up a dialogue for others to share their own struggles.

Some of the mom friends in my life that I’m closest to, came about because I took the chance and told them about my struggles with postpartum anxiety. So many were quick to share their own stories or to offer the support I could only have received from another mom.
