Marie Kondo and her KonMari Method for home organization have been around for several years, but the Netflix series has taken 2019 by storm. Half of my Instagram feed is currently photos of closets and drawers organized the KonMari way, peppered with a hilarious collection of questions about whether household items spark joy.

If you're unfamiliar with Marie Kondo, you can read her book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, or have a watch of her new show on Netflix, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. She's even helped Jimmy Kimmel tidy his office! She says each item in your home should "spark joy," and she has a very particular suggestion for folding your clothes that involves treating them as though they have feelings and souls, and taking care not to squish them too much or fold them harshly.

If you'd like the Cliffs Notes version, we've compiled a selection of her tips to get you started in keeping your home clutter free and full of items that spark joy.
