We use the word can because obviously you need to avoid burning your skin. However, 10 to 15 minutes of daily sun exposure dramatically boosts vitamin D levels. While you should tailor your time in the sun to your own health needs, vitamin D deficiency is a serious condition connected to a host of health problems, ranging from cancer to heart disease and obesity. So the next time you reach for that sunscreen, consider whether a few minutes of direct light could be beneficial to your health.
