When we had my daughter, we had just moved 4,000 miles away and we adopted her, which is almost never cheap. As a writer and a high school guidance counselor, to say we were looking for ways to cut down on costs would be an understatement.

But we did find ways that could cut down on our costs, and the main way was to simply accept that we could do without so many things. We didn't need half of what you'd find in the Target baby aisles in order to raise our daughter and later our son.

We found a whole range of ways to work around the typical expensive baby gear problems with a little creativity. Here's a few ideas so you can do the same.
