5. Need: Bassinet
According to the American Association of Pediatrics (AAP), the safest place for a baby to sleep for the first 6 months is in the same room as their parents but not the same sleeping surface. Room-sharing can reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) by 50%, which makes a bassinet an outstanding choice for safe sleep.

A bassinet is basically a smaller version of a crib. Unlike a crib, however, it's portable, so you can wheel it right up next to your bed. Bassinets are snug and cozy, which can be comforting to a newborn. Some even feature a clip on white noise machine.

Make sure you also register for fitted sheets specifically designed to fit snugly to the bassinet mattress.
