6. Don't Ask, Tell
It's pretty much never advisable to ask a child if they have to go to the bathroom because they will invariably say no. A statement like "It's time to go potty" will eliminate the power struggle.

For active resistance, try offering a choice, such as, "Would you like to go potty or brush your teeth first?" Neither one is negotiable, but your kid may be satisfied to have a little bit of control back.
