If you have more than one child, the cost doubles and triples. Redirect this money into a college fund or other savings or use it on family vacations.

Instead of throwing a big bash every year, start your own tradition early or switch gears into one. Your child can pick out what’s for dinner at home or which favorite restaurant to go to together. It’s tempting to be extravagant, but all kids really want is your undivided attention. And, you’re also setting a strong example on how to wisely manage and value money.
