2. What To Do In San Francisco
The beauty of San Francisco is you get the city experience with plenty of options nearby for the nature lovers in your family. You can spend time Christmas shopping in Union Square, taking in all the decorations at the stores and in the hotel lobbies, and also enjoy ice skating and pretty much any dining experience you might want, from white table cloths to stand-at-the-bar pizza.

Then, when you've had enough of the high rise buildings, you can jump on a decorated cable car and go down to the wharf, piers, or ferry building to spend time by the water and take in the views of the bay. Kids will enjoy the aquarium at Fisherman's Wharf, as well as the Exploratorium by the Ferry Building. And, Golden Gate Park offers a whole different world of outdoor exploration through the various world-renowned gardens, as well as a visit to the Academy Of Sciences, where your kids can go in an earth quake simulator, check out a tropical rainforest biome, and wander through an aquarium filled with underwater spectacles.

If you still want even more nature, a short drive over the iconic Golden Gate Bridge will take you to Muir Woods and the Marin Headlands, where California's coast really shines in its natural beauty. While a weekend in San Francisco may be enough to get a feel for the city, a week could be spent using the city as a home base while exploring all of the neighborhoods and also escaping to the coast.
