I have a lot of incredible memories of Fourth of July celebrations from when I was a child. My family lived on a lake, so the day was spent on the water and the evening was spent watching fireworks and listening to "We're Coming to America" by Neil Diamond. It was quintessential, to say the least.

And now that I'm a parent, I'd like to start some of our own traditions that we can continue every year. I'm a total wimp when it comes to fireworks (training as an EMT gave me a very realistic fear of what they can do to fingers!), but there are tons of ideas to celebrate the idea that don't involve lighting a fuse.
