Representation matters. All kids deserve to read books with characters who are like them. However, children's books should not only provide mirrors that reflect their realities. They must also serve as windows into the lives of others. Books with LGBTQ characters, families, and themes serve this purpose.

For children who identity as LGBTQ or who have emerging LGBTQ identities or families, such books validate their lived experiences. For other children, they help them respect and appreciate difference and understand the wider world.

Consider adding these LGBTQ-inclusive books to your home library. Whether they specifically address gender identity and expression, celebrate diversity as a whole, or simply feature a family with two moms or dads, these titles deserve a place on your child's bookshelf.
